ANNOUNCEMENT
[coming soon]
What is Cairo:Otherscape?
Cairo:Otherscape is a new setting book for the tabletop roleplaying game :Otherscape. A crowdfunding campaign for Cairo:Otherscape is set to be launched on March 18th 2025, with both digital PDF and physical versions of the book being available as rewards for backers. Cairo:Otherscape will require players to have a copy of the game’s core rulebook - Metro:Otherscape.
With this setting book, players and the Master of Ceremonies, or games master, will be able to create and play games of :Otherscape set within an alternate future version of the Egyptian city of Cairo and the surrounding region of Alexandria. This new :Otherscape Megacity is in the midst of a power-struggle between several interest groups from both within and outside of Egypt, including a cabal of wealthy CEOs whose dreams of pharaonic domination have led them to partner up with the Ancient Egyptian Pantheon itself. Players will find themselves inevitably embroiled in this struggle as they encounter various Egyptian and Arabic rituals, relics, gods and monsters in this new mythic cyberpunk dystopian setting.
Key features of Cairo:Otherscape
- An exciting new setting for players and MCs to explore, inspired by Egyptian and Arabic mythology, culture and history - with a cyberpunk twist
- Includes :Otherscape’s first Megacity campaign that will take players across Cairo in a series of exciting adventures wherein they’ll challenge a rogue’s gallery of enemies and monsters
- Contains a collection of brand new Egyptian and Arabic inspired options for players to use when making and developing their characters
- Players can utilize an arsenal of 100+ new items: from ancient relics to military mechs
- MC’s will gain access to a large selection of new challenges to throw at their players - like geneticist high priests, graveyard ghouls and giant Set animals
- During their adventures in Cairo and Alexandria, players can interact with several different key power players such as the AgTech Corp ruled by the Ancient Egyptian god Sobek, and the people’s resistance based in and around the city markets
Highlights of Cairo:Otherscape
- The next major setting expansion for :Otherscape - joining Tokyo:Otherscape - that was voted as the most desired setting idea by the game’s community
- Features contributions from a team of Egyptian game writers to ensure that the setting is treated with authenticity and respect, as well as include a wide variety of inspirations from the famous to the obscure
- A unique twist on a popular setting that combines the magic and myths of Ancient Egypt with advanced technology and classic cyberpunk themes
- Contains over 300 pages of new content for both players and MCs: including character creation options, an entire campaign, challenges, factions and items
What is Neuro:Otherscape?
Neuro:Otherscape is the next major non-campaign expansion for the tabletop RPG :Otherscape. The physical and digital versions of the Neuro:Otherscape book will be a part of the same crowdfunding campaign as Cairo:Otherscape, which launches on March 18th 2025. As with Cairo:Otherscape, players who want to use Neuro:Otherscape will need a copy of the RPG’s core rulebook - Metro:Otherscape.
Using this supplementary book, players and MCs will be able to create and play games of :Otherscape using a large collection of Cyberspace-focused content. Cyberspace is a virtual realm within the world of :Otherscape, that has its own unique virtual environments for players to explore and run heists in. Though Cyberspace is already an existing feature of :Otherscape, Neuro:Otherscape will introduce a new set of in-depth Cyberspace rules to the game, as well as other elements such as the new threats and opportunities brought about by an invasion of Cyberspace by the Mythoi, or the supernatural forces of :Otherscape.
Key Features of Neuro:Otherscape
- A new set of gameplay and worldbuilding rules for Cyberspace that will provide both players and MCs with more options for entering, exploring and surviving Cyberspace
- Players will have access to new options for character creation and development, all themed around navigating the various dangers of Cyberspace
- Includes a selection of five new jobs, or adventures, for players to complete, all taking place within and around Cyberspace
- Features a database of new challenges for MCs to implement into their games, from wandering rogue AI to the Mythoi spreading in from the Otherscape
- Unlocks a host of new Cyberspace equipment for players to deck out their characters with, such as forging apps and VR weapons
- A cast of influential Cyberspace factions for players to ally with or against, including powerful tech companies and a crew of frontier hackers
Highlights of Neuro:Otherscape
- Voted as the most-desired non-campaign supplement by the :Otherscape community
- Massively expands one of :Otherscape’s weirdest and most fascinating worldbuilding elements, Cyberspace, into an even more substantial part of the game
- Features a thematic throughline in the invasion of the Mythoi, with players and MCs witnessing the Apotheosis - or transformation - of Cyberspace happening around them as they explore the book’s content
- Can be used in a multitude of ways: whether to augment an existing :Otherscape campaign with Cyberspace elements, or to form the basis of an entirely new series of jobs for a new Crew of characters
What is :Otherscape?
:Otherscape is a tabletop roleplaying game published by Son of Oak - the studio behind City of Mist and Legend in the Mist - that’s set in a dystopian cyberpunk world where magic and myths have returned. Players form a Crew of mercenaries, agents and survivors who must attempt to hang onto their humanity, amidst all the chaos and noise of life in a Megacity that’s pulsing with power from both post-human technology and ancient mythology.
The gameplay system for :Otherscape is based on the Mist Engine, which also powers Son of Oak’s other games like Legend in the Mist. :Otherscape’s gameplay has been praised for its emphasis on tangible character progression - which reflects the serious choices that players make - alongside a modular, one-Roll-to-rule-them-all approach to action resolutions that give players the option to make the game as narrative or tactical as they like.
