Players guide for a new player
Bookbis high quality and easy to use i was able to create my character with only minimal help from the CM
A lot of my roll players have become role players with this game.
I am amazed that a lot of my, previously, roll players have become role players with this game.

In CoM they are one and the same. I've also always gravitated more to internally conflicted vigilantes that question their actions and thoughts as opposed to "I **** Bad Guy and therefore am a hero despite what I did to get there! Woohoo!"
The way CoM makes characters evolve and change instead of just endlessly gaining more points is the thing that really made me love the system.

I don't care at all for the setting and the dichotomy being tied in to choosing new things to replace the old is also problematic for me because I prefer to not play with such clear cut oppositions in my games. However the whole idea that in order to really see the best advancement characters need to actually lose touch with part of what they identified with and instead reveal a new facet of themselves is just am amazing way to do character growth.
City of mist is one of the best ttrpg's that I've ever played and GM'd in terms of creative fulfilment.

The cinematics flow really well with the conversational style of gameplay and the fact that there aren't really any set rules on ranges and distances makes it a lot easier to handle theatre of the mind gameplay compared to other TTRPG's. This, to me, is a big part of why it feels very fulfilling to both run and play with this system, as you don't have to worry about strict distances and numbers and can instead focus on the storytelling. Plus, the fact that the game actively encourages players to push their characters to evolve and develop which is a lot of fun.
GREAT GAME... HOPE I CAN PLAY
This book is well written and a simple but deep rule set. Enough for me go all in for the next set with this system on Kickstarter
TL;DR - Incredibly unique game and one that we want to play in the near future. Fantastic production and value.
Rules light, myth based group roleplaying
I really like this setting. It can see intimidating at first, as there is a good bit more terminology that you need to learn for the books (Rifts, Mist, etc etc) but it has a unique concept that really lends itself to some neat stories and games. I highly recommend it

Criticism: The core conceit of City of Mist is that you're in a noir giant city (or neon noir or neo noir or whatever version of noir you want) with a fair bit of mystery but the tone doesn't match. The mechanics do not back up this setting and the entire idea of "group noir" is hard to pull off and is not done here. Players have the ability to help and hinder but no real incentives in doing such. There's constant judgment calls on how many tags can apply and making everything a tag call or a juice call makes the rolls remarkably dull. The power advances offered and small enough to want to keep track of but not interesting enough to want to remember to do advancement. The tag burn and downtime mechanics will vary widely based on how often your group meets and the average length of the setting. The language of film is used but without the step of training the reader how to think like one is in a movie. The idea of a "shot" is straight forward but with the exception of the credits and this framing this notion is not used which makes me wish it hadn't been included. It also demands players have a common cinematic language which won't exist for most people without a large shared background. The nature of the city is too vague which would theoretically make it sandboxy but simply makes it uninteresting. There is no sense of scale to the stories. The milquetoast system used to coming up with various tracks that be habilitated or used are too generic and prove for unsatisfying encounters whether it be combat, wearing down someone to confess or social intrigue. The system manages to take the notion PBtA and add enough cruft to it to make it no longer the remarkably sleek core of PBtA and the move names don't serve to be sufficiently evocative to inform you how to play. Praises: It is quite pretty. The idea of tags for all things is kind of interesting but is not there yet. It takes the notion of Aspects from Fate and makes them less interesting while creating something a little more variable for what PBtA wants you to roll. That one can be a rift of anything is a fine idea but there's not real way to pin it down which is unsatisfying. The game is too diffuse. It needed to focus on noir or it needed to go towards a more generic system. As it lay now puts it somewhere that I just find meh.
This is a really great game. It's the one good part of Fate grafted onto the PBtA system and it works perfectly. Honestly this might be my new model for future games, too. It will accommodate any setting that involves magic with basically no changes. It will accommodate any setting that involves magic with basically no changes. As for the setting, I love the glitzy surface level of it but I'm actually reluctant to dig any deeper. There's a lot going on in the lore expansion books but ... I just don't care? I don't actually want to know, and I say that as a Forever GM. We just play in a Dark City-style Quantum 80s where the cars have fins, everyone wears a trenchcoat, and there's Facebook, but no cell phones. The city is all there is and who cares about the rest? Really, though, this book is all you need to play the game. There may be good stuff in the others, but they are optional. I recommend trying this out.
Classless, numberless, and limitless
Received the Player/MC books from Kickstarter nearly a week ago. The game lives up to the hype, and I'm eager for the upcoming books to fill out the setting and provide campaign fodder. The game lives up to the hype, and I'm eager for the upcoming books to fill out the setting and provide campaign fodder. Another great PBtA (powered by the apocalypse) alum. If you haven't played this style game before, you should know that its rules light, story driven, and mechanics light. Much of the content is up to the players to invent seemingly on the spot, leaving the GM to adlib as he goes. What City of Mist does well, is the utilization of themes and tags to create a character built from blocks instead of classes. The blocks (called themes) that build your characters can and will change over the course of a campaign or session. This feature allows the players to have life events accrue over to time to add up to tangible changes to the character (and their sheet). Since each block of the character sheet is tied to a piece of the characters backstory and present life, and also constantly in flux/changing, it feels like the character is really alive and changing with the story. It's natural qualities pull narrative stories out of players who otherwise find RP difficult. Further, the building blocks that build a character are in turn built from blocks themselves (called tags). These allow for easy to reference unique ability traits based on that element of a characters life. To DnD albums, these numberless tags may remind you of skills. However they are used very differently here to form the bulk of every action. The themes and tags form the basis of every character. The building blocks that represent who that person is. Given that this game lacks any classes, you could say that there are infinite combinations that represent unlimited ways to play characters. I guarantee you will never see to characters alike. While this game focuses on the supernatural, myths, and legends it would be very simple to use this for any type of game. Scifi, fantasy, cthulu, etc.. this is simply such a powerful tool, that it would be limited only by your imagination. If you enjoy rules light systems, have players who struggle with RP, or otherwise want to run a game that other systems cant facilitate pick up a copy of this game (or at least their free starter set on their website).
Extremely High quality, both in content and materials used.
The quality of the book, from cover to cover is unmatched by anything I've seen in RPG books. The ink and page quality is amazing, and the art helps breathe life into the setting of City of Mist. The game is simple to learn, allowing the complexity to be born from the narrative. 9.5/10.
City of Mist one of the best games ever made.

But that is not all, it also has a super free form and adaptable system that provides lots of flavor to the game when played. But that is not all, it also has TONS of examples and advice to help you make your character so you don't get analysis paralysis by feeling like you have too many choices. But that is not all, the system is also so flexible that you can mutate the game and use it to run TONS of different things that are outside of the setting. This is the second printing of the game, and I am already seeing subtle improvements to things as I start reading it. One of the best, Cant go wrong.
Huge and excellent.
Be warned, this book is *HUGE*, but it’s also *GORGEOUS*. Thematically, it’s an Urban Fantasy game that hits a lot of interesting notes. Mechanically, it takes elements of Fate and Powered by the Apocalypse, but also adds a lot of its own spin to really engage players in making the city their own.
Worth the money
At first I was a little apprehensive because of the price, but the quality of this book is top notch. The system itself is fun and relatively easy to learn taking the best parts of Apocalypse World and Fate Core and melding them together. The two groups I have run one shots with adore the game.

Incredible RPG! The system is very adaptable and you can build an infinite amount of characters and stories with the flexibility this game provides. My only issue is that the rules are heavy for a typical Apocalypse System game, but they are well done.v
