Son of Oak End of Year Update 2023
Hello everyone! 2023 has been an incredibly busy time for our team. To keep you informed, here’s an End of the Year Update for all things Son of Oak.
City of Mist Winter Sale
First up, the City of Mist Winter Sale is now live! Until the end of December, you can get up to 40-to-45% off select physical bundles like the Core Set and the Ultimate Set. All PDFs are at least 33% off, going up to 50% off the Ultimate PDF bundle. Some locations are running out of stock on the most popular items, so better grab your items soon.

New Referral Program
If you want another reason to get your friends into City of Mist, Son of Oak is also launching a new referral program where you can gain access to free City of Mist content. Simply log in or create an account on the City of Mist website. Then, click the Referrals button on your account page and send the custom referral link at the bottom to whoever you want. Your friends will get $10 off their first purchase of $50 or more, and you’ll get points to redeem for exclusive content.
This content includes a new character folio featuring Farida Jalal, the Rift of Sinbad. You can also obtain a new set of Dangers based off of a typical fantasy RPG party. And in January, a new Small-Time Villain will become available known as the Straw Man.

Local Legends Coming Soon!
Now for the big news. Local Legends is about to arrive! The Son of Oak team has been hard at work, and now, they’re hoping to release the full PDF book to backers any day now. This expansion will include new districts, new Dangers, and new cases, including the highly anticipated case Forged & Framed written by Runesmith.
Once the PDF is completed, Son of Oak plans on the physical release arriving sometime in Q2 of 2024.
Queerz!
Now for some news on Son of Oak’s other projects. The LGBTQ-themed super sentai roleplaying game QUEERZ! has just wrapped up print! Soon, the books and game boxes will be on the boats and heading to backers. After this initial release, QUEERZ! will be distributed by Japanime Games starting in March 2024.

:Otherscape
As for :Otherscape, the PDF release of the mythic cyberpunk roleplaying game is currently slated for the first few months of 2024. This project is the main focus of the team and, during development, the game’s core engine has been completely overhauled.
Taken directly from Son of Oak founder Amit Moshe, “We’re now happy to share with players the cutting edge of tag-based game mechanics, which will allow for even greater player creativity with less rules. The new engine works on a single roll for all actions, so no more moves. Based on this core roll, players can spend their Power to buy different effects, add tags and statuses, discover details, and perform narrative feats.
Soft and hard moves from City of Mist have been updated into Threats and Consequences. New rules for your crew’s Loadout have been added, allowing your PC’s to track narratively interesting gear. :Otherscape will also be introducing features for Essence evolution, which will allow your PC’s to change their identity and become a Cyborg, an Avatar, a Singularity, and more.
We appreciate the community’s patience with our process with :Otherscape, and we’re confident that the wait will be worth it when the gates will open to the mythical Megacities, starting with Tokyo."
For current updates, be sure to join the City of Mist Discord. As for me, I’m realizing my :Otherscape In Action video I made last year will now be completely obsolete, so we’ll probably have to make a new one once the game’s released.
Legend in the Mist + Survey
The new engine developed with :Otherscape will be used for Son of Oak’s next big project: a rustic fantasy RPG titled Legend in the Mist. This game will be kickstarted early in 2024, once Son of Oak wraps up production on the projects mentioned previously in this video. We’ll have more details on this project in later updates. But for now, you can follow the kickstarter preview page to get notified.
